Momentum Movement Indicators Financial Analyst F.A.Q.
STOCK SCREEN

The Stock Screen Module provides users with a powerful method of finding Stocks that meet their specific criteria. Over 50 filters are included to allow for highly precise searches, including screens using Momentum, Movement Indicators (chart patterns), Fundamental Data and Analyst Ratings.

Also available is an exclusive Auto Filter feature. This filtering system is calibrated prior to the start of each trade day, and with the simple click of a button will perform a comprehensive screen across any Industry Sector or Group, locating stocks with high movement potential in the desired direction over the specified period of time (Intra-day or Short Term).

Screen results may be viewed with numerous user selected display options (depending on the Group being used) including key Technical and Fundamental numbers denoted with abbreviations as indicated below.

STOCK SEARCH

The Search engine employed on this site will traverse the online database, filter and retrieve information on over 7,000 actively traded securities. The database contains only those securities listed on the NASDAQ, NYSE, AMEX and TSX. Information is updated before the start of each trade day.

The Search form will support standard search syntax's including wildcard searches using "*". The database is also set to support Sector specific searches either by Market or Industry Sector. Sectors and their codes can be viewed by clicking on "Sector Analysis" from within any eQuote screen.

Search results can be viewed in 2 formats, List view (default) and Expanded view.

The List view will provide Momentum indication plus basic information such as Company Name, Sector and ADL (average-daily-liquidity), and is intended to aid users in locating companies within our database, and their ticker symbols.

The Expanded view provides all the information as List view, with the addition of key Technical and Fundamental numbers denoted with abbreviations as indicated below.

MOMENTUM INDICATORS
 DT

The Intra-day Momentum Indicators (DT) are comprised of close to 30 Movement Indicators generated and tracked for each security. Once all indicator values are established they are weighed to determine their relevance and impact on current price trends, and then used to calculate any intra-day momentum that may be present for the targeted security. Momentum Indicators are provided for both the Security and its Industry Sector.

The Intra-Day Momentum Indicators (DT) display a security's anticipated price trend from its regular hours OPEN through to CLOSE, for the indicated Day Trading session.

 C4

The Short Term Momentum Indicators (C4) display a security's anticipated price trend within the indicated 4-day cycle, from its regular hours OPEN of the 1st day through the 4th day CLOSE.

A faded out gauge denotes that the security's Momentum is not available or cannot be displayed due to time restrictions or other system factors. When a symbols' data area is denoted with "Data Expired" means that the symbol is no longer actively tracked by this system. This is usually due to one of the following reasons; the symbol has been de-listed from the major exchanges, the symbol did not have any trading activity in a recent session, or the symbol's liquidity is below the established ADL to be actively tracked by this system and included in the eQuotes.

MOVEMENT INDICATORS

Below are the key indicators used in compiling the primary Momentum indicator for gauging and forecasting short term market and equity movements. The screener and search utility can compile "on the fly" graphical summaries for all indicators listed - by Position and Trend.

+ Above v.High / s.UP Positive Negative v.Low / s.DN - Below
Position represents current Indicator range within normal chart parameters using a numerical scale of 100% for high and -100% for low positions, with 0 (zero) as the median. Trend is the Indicator's 4-day trendline using the same numerical scale. Extreme positions such as a stocks current range being outside its upper or lower Bollinger Bands are screened for by selecting the "+ Above" or "- Below" settings.

SHARE & FINANCIAL DATA

When selecting Expanded View within the search utility, or Display Options within the Stock Screen tool, key Share and Financial numbers are provided in the results screen for each security and are denoted with abbreviations.

The abbreviations used and their definitions are as follows:

  • pCL - Close - The most recent (prior session) closing trade price.

  • aVL - Average Volume - The average intra-day volume over the past 10 trade days.

  • 52wHL - Represents the highest and lowest trade price for the security in the past 52 weeks.

  • mCAP - Market Cap - This value is calculated by multiplying the securities recent trade price by the current number of Shares Outstanding (Capitalization).

  • P/E - Price/Earnings Ratio - This ratio is calculated by dividing the current price by the Primary Earnings Per Share (trailing-twelve-months). In some cases the value may be in red, which means the EPS for that security is negative. When this occurs the price is multiplied (not divided) by the EPS to establish a negative P/E which can be useful when comparing to other securities with negative P/E (EPS) values. The P/E ratio on this system is capped at 140, meaning the P/E value for any security with a ratio greater than 140 or less than -140 is adjusted accordingly

  • P/B - Price/Book Ratio - Is an indicator, expressed in percent, of how close - or far apart - a security's current trade price is compared to it's book value. A negative value indicates a security is currently trading above its book value.

  • P/S - Price/Sales Ratio - Current Price divided by the Sales Per Share for the trailing 12 months.

  • PEG - PEG Ratio - Forward-looking measure used to measure a stock's valuation against its projected growth rate (P/E Ratio divided by 5-yr expected growth).

  •

  • EPS - Earnings Per Share available to Common Stockholder's (trailing-twelve-months).

  • Book/S - Represents the per share Equity for Common Shareholders.

  • Sales/S - This value is the trailing 12 month Total Revenue divided by the Average Primary Shares Outstanding for the trailing 12 months.

  • Cash/S - This is the Total Cash plus Short Term Investments divided by the Shares Outstanding at the end of the most recent fiscal quarter.

  • pMGN - Profit Margin - This value is the Income After Taxes for the trailing 12 months divided by Total Revenue for the same period and is expressed as a percentage (this value is capped at 101 and -101, respectively).

  • d/EQT - Debt/Equity Ratio - This ratio is Total Debt for the most recent fiscal quarter divided by Total Shareholder Equity for the same period (this value is capped at 201 and -201, respectively).

  • YLD - Dividend Yield - This value is the current percentage dividend yield, calculated using the Indicated Annual Dividend divided by the current price.

ANALYST RATINGS

Also available for use with the Stock Screen tool and with Expanded View on the search utility are numbers for Analyst Ratings and recent media Activity

The abbreviations used and their definitions are as follows:

  • aRTG - Analyst Rating - Analyst recommendations have been translated to numbers in an effort to simplify the task of discerning the different recommendations made. Values are based on a scale of 1-100, where 86+ is a strong buy.

  • rCHG - Recent Change - Any recent change in Analyst Rating, displayed using the same scale as above.
